It's WEIGH-IN MONDAY!

Weigh-in Monday has arrived!!! Drum roll please!!

Weight on Monday (8/12/2013): 222.2 lbs
Weight on Monday (8/12/2013): 218.0 lbs

Total Weight Lost last week: 4.2 lbs

Total Weight Lost: 34.6 lbs

I am finally in my 210's!!! It had been a struggle to lose those last couple of pounds to say goodbye to my 220's. As a personal reward went out shopping for new clothes on Saturday (just a couple of items, as I intend on losing more weight). I had a $30 savings coupon for Banana Republic; a store I love, but had not been able to shop in a while as I was just too big. At the start of my journey I wore 40w jeans (which were starting to fit very tightly). I went to the jeans section and looked for 38w and 36w jeans. I expected to buy a pair of 38" waist jeans but just wanted to try out a pair of the 36", just to see how it was beginning to fit. It turns out Banana Republic had no 38w jeans. I was, to say the least, upset but decided to try the 36" pair anyways. And guess what? They fit perfectly!!! Hurray!!!

It's WEIGH-IN MONDAY!

Weigh-in Monday has arrived!!! Drum roll please!!

Weight on Monday (8/5/2013): 224.2 lbs
Weight on Monday (8/12/2013): 222.2 lbs

Total Weight Lost last week: 2.0 lbs

Total Weight Lost: 30.4 lbs
I must confess I have been a little frustrated this week. There has been a slowdown in my weight loss and although rationally I understand that plateaus are normal and that a it is impossible for anyone to keep losing weight as quickly indefinitely I am for lack of a better word bummed out. I have been in my 220's for 34 days now and I am very anxious to get to my 210's. Hopefully by next week I will be able to write I got to my 210's. I need to keep myself motivated and keep focused on the fact that being Healthy is more important than losing pounds.

Wheatgrass Sprouts

My wheatgrass seedlings are sprouting quickly!! I’m going to have to harvest sooner than expected. Here are some progress pictures. Growing your own plants for consumption is so much fun! (Nerd alert!) hehehehe

Wheatgrass; a Little Giant

As I mentioned yesterday I have been juicing and pulping away for about a week now. It’s a great, fast and easy way to get a boost of natural minerals, vitamins and nutrients. For this first week I have been drinking a juice made of wheatgrass, green onions, carrots and blueberries which isn’t half bad.

After a couple of days of enjoying my blend I decided to grow my own whaetgrass. Side note: I have always loved growing fruits and vegetables. This was right up my alley. Keep your eyes open for upcoming progress on the wheatgrass front!

And a JUICING and a PULPING!

As you all know I've been introducing healthier options and activities into my life on a step by step basis. I've done this very consciously. I know myself enough to know that in the past whenever I tried something new and went in heads-on too quickly, I usually ended up quitting as it could become overwhelming.

This time from the beginning I knew I had to let my boy and MIND adjust to the changes slowly, adding new things step by step. I am very glad I did just that. If you have followed my blog you might remember that before my path to healthier living began I did not eat any vegetables and very rarely ate fruit. I slowly started to change the way I ate. Started trying out new vegetables by making vegetable soup. I kept introducing new vegetables to the soup one by one, slowly appreciating the different flavors. I was then able to start eating raw vegetables in forms of simple salads. Just as I had done with the soup I kept introducing new vegetables to my salads. In the course of three months I can say my palate has changed, from strongly disliking and avoiding vegetables (to the extreme of removing the lettuce, tomato and onions from burgers) to actively looking for new veggie options to eat.

I have introduced a new facet into my transformation. It is called pulping. In simple terms it involves using a food processor to effectively process/liquefy vegetables and fruits in order to better absorb their nutrients. I bough one such processor called the Nutribullet.

I started juicing this past Saturday. I bough a variety of vegetables and made my first juice (wheatgrass, watercress, carrots, green onions and blueberries). As soon as I tried it I almost threw up. Yep, the complete truth. The juice tasted horribly to me. As I had introduced two greens which I had never eaten before (wheatgrass and watercress) I decided to taste them individually to see which one was the culprit of the horrible tasting juice. DRUM ROLL... It was watercress. Made a new batch without the watercress and it was great!!

I am enjoying one full glass of fresh vegetable juice everyday now, boosting my consumption of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins.

And why did I start juicing/pulping you may ask? Well, I saw a couple of very good documentaries showing the benefits of juicing. But most importantly I have several good friends and mentors who also validated the advice given by the documentaries. If I had started juicing/pulping at the beginning of my transformation towards healthier living I would have most likely hated the taste and would have quit altogether. My palate has changed and adapted to these new tastes.

Oh,yes I did!!!! Bad habit week

My plan is not to hide on bad days and only boast about my good result days. The idea of this blog is to be honest about the process and take time to put my thoughts down.

Last week was a bad habits week. As you know I was traveling last week on business. It was not a good week at all. Diet wise went off the track completely. Ate all of those things that had made me into the unhealthy and FAT person I was three months ago. Yep, ate things like:

1) Fettuccine Alfredo
2) Burgers
3) Fries (Lots of Fries)
4) Fried Chicken
5) Bread (Oh the bread!!)
6) Pizza
7) Fries (Had I mentioned I ate lots of fries?)

Portion control: None whatsoever.

The only good habit I kept up with was my exercise regimen, which thankfully helped me only having gained 3lbs. Otherwise, I am sure I would have gained at least 6 lbs.

Weight on Monday (7/22/2013): 225.2 lbs
Weight on Monday (7/29/2013): 228.2 lbs

Total Weight GAINED in a week: 3.0 lbs

Peer pressure was surely a factor. It is not an excuse however. As soon as I got back home though went into an intense path to regain my track. Doubled my cardiovascular exercise on Monday and Tuesday and eliminated all carbohydrates from my diet (only vegetables and lean meat). And within three days lost all of the weight gained plus some. In summary, we are all going to have bad days, even bad weeks, the important thing is to know that we have set a long term goal and these events are just that, small events. As I did not post my graph this past Monday (Weigh-in Monday), I will post the graph today.

Weight on Monday (7/29/2013): 228.2 lbs
Weight on Today (8/1/2013): 222.5 lbs

Total Weight Lost: 30.1 lbs

I HAVE NOW LOST MORE THAN 30 LBS!!!
